Professional Qualities

In the film industry, acting professional is key to being successful. A well known saying in media is ‘time is money’, therefore if you’re messing about or not focused on your task you’re costing the company time and money. Also, in this industry a lot of work you will receive will be from word of mouth or contacts. References are very important to employers and someone’s reputation will play a big part in their working life.

Some qualities that people in the industry should have include:

  • Good listening and communication skills – to listen tot instruction in detail and be able to relay information or ask questions if needed
  • Be able to work in a team – a production will get nowhere if people refuse to agree with or criticise and improve someone’s opinion
  • Punctuality – showing up late can cause the whole production to be put on hold, again costing money
  • Good organisational skills – forgetting equipment or deadlines again can stop progress
  • Knowledge of your role – if you know how to use your equipment you have more chance of being hired in the first place, and will save a lot of time on set
